A Concentrated Experience 

The ferae naturae series grew from time spent at the Donnelly River verandah residency, where I became absorbed in the minutiae of the forest floor—small leaves, curling stems, and shifting patterns of light. In the studio, these impressions found form through repeated acts of cutting, folding, and placing, each gesture a quiet echo of the organic structures I observed. Colour flows through the works in soft gradations and sudden contrasts, recalling the layered greens, ochres, and unexpected flashes that thrive in the understorey. In their smallness, these pieces invite a concentrated looking—an intimate exchange where shadows and hues shift with the viewer’s movement, echoing the slow, attentive rhythm of the forest itself.
